Safe, hygienic and traceable sorting of powder and granular materials is the key to product quality and process continuity in food, pharmaceutical and chemical processes. PivaSiS Engineering’s Sieving Unit responds to this need with experience gained in the field and is designed with the aim of full compliance with GMP and FDA expectations, ATEX explosive environment requirements and hygienic design principles.
– Hygienic design: Easy-to-clean housing and connectivity with no dead spots on food and pharmaceutical contact surfaces; optimized for wet (CIP/SIP) or dry cleaning scenarios.
– Process safety: ATEX compliant housing, earthing, antistatic gasket and sleeve options reduce the risk of dust explosion.
– Quality and traceability: Screen wire, frame and contact surfaces can be traced back to the selected material quality (e.g. material certificates).
– Accurate product performance: Sieve aperture and vibration characteristics are determined by fluidity, bulk density and particle morphology. Optional integration of magnetic grippers or metal detectors is also possible.
Pharmaceuticals (cGMP – 21 CFR 211)
– Equipment construction: Surfaces in contact with the product must not be reactive, adsorptive or contaminating.
– Appropriate design and location: The equipment must be of a design and correctly positioned for the intended use.
– Cleaning and validation: The Screen Unit is handled together with cleaning validation, IQ/OQ/PQ files and change management.
Food (21 CFR 117 – FSMA cGMP)
– Sanitation and cleanability: Facilities and equipment should be of a size, design and construction to facilitate maintenance and sanitization.
– Food contact materials: Reg. (EC) 1935/2004 is taken into account for food contact on the European market.
Screening can operate in Zone 20 (internal), Zone 21/22 (external environment) classifications according to the target requirements.
Equipment group and category selection, temperature class, surface temperature and dust ignition parameters (Kst, Pmax, MEC etc.) are determined by risk assessment.
Precautions against static electricity: Grounding, potential equalization, antistatic hoses/gaskets and appropriate surface resistance values are considered.
– Materials: AISI 316L is preferred for product contact surfaces.
– Surface finish: Low roughness is targeted according to cleanability and contamination risk.
– Sieve modules: Accessible construction with certified mesh, quick-release clamps and tensioning system.
– Sealing and dust control: Highly efficient dust sealing, closed transmission and negative pressure operation options.
– Cleaning Spray cannons and drainage design for dry cleaning or CIP.
– Safety: Selection of sensors/actuators according to ATEX zoning, locking covers and grounding points.
Food: Sugar, milk powder, whey, flour/starch, spices – particle size control and foreign matter removal.
Pharma: APIs and excipients – pre/post granulation fractionation, capsule/pre-fill sieving.
The pivaSiFT Sieving Unit combines hygienic design, regulatory compliance and ATEX safety in food and pharmaceutical production; providing a clean, predictable and auditable sieving step. Your process specific configurations are evaluated in accordance with GMP & FDA, FSMA, EHEDG/EN 1672-2 and ATEX.
